The world’s largest diet study has found that if you want to lose weight, you should maintain a high protein, low GI diet so a diet that tells you what you can eat and gives you high protein, low GI suggestions would be ideal.

Protein is vital for practically every process that occurs in the body such as metabolism, digestion and the transportation of nutrients and oxygen in the blood.

High protein levels can help you to lose weight, lose your fat, increase your muscle. By eating more protein, you should stay full longer, causing you to eat less.

As a starting point the following are classed as high protein foods:

Chicken

Turkey

Other lean meats and Beef

All types of Fish.

Beans

Nuts

Milk

Eggs and Egg Whites

GI or Glycemic Index is a measure of the effects of Carbs on blood sugar levels. Carbs that break down quickly during digestion and release glucose quickly into the bloodstream have a high GI. Carbs that break down more slowly, releasing glucose more gradually into the bloodstream, have a low GI.

Most vegetables have low GI. Because the Carb content of meat and fish is minimal, these foods have a low GI value. GL or Glycemic Load is is a ranking system for the carb content in food portions based on the foods GI and the portion size. GL combines both the quality and quantity of carbs in one ‘number’. It’s one of the best ways to predict blood glucose values of different types and amounts of food.

The following ranges are usually applied to determine the GL of a particular food:

Low GL – 10 or less

Medium GL – 11 to 19

High GL – 20 or more

The following values are applied to define the GL per day:

Low GL – less than 80

High GL – more than 120

So High Protein Low GI Low GL is the way forward if you want to lose weight quickly and easily.
